Timperley students bring clean water to communities in Bangladesh and Sri Lanka through fundraising efforts

A group of dedicated students from Wellington School in Timperley has made a life-changing difference for communities in Bangladesh and Sri Lanka. Thanks to their hard work and compassion, and in partnership with Bradford-based international humanitarian charity Human Relief Foundation (HRF), these communities now have access to clean, reliable water supplies.

The initiative was spearheaded by Year 13 members of the school’s Islamic Society, who raised an impressive £1,280 for HRF’s water well project. The funds were gathered through a series of creative and engaging activities, with the highlight being an Eid fundraiser earlier this year. This included a special auction featuring prayer mats lovingly crafted by Year 7 students, using fabric generously donated by local interior design company, The Design House in Altrincham. The fundraising efforts were led by Zainab Ali, a passionate and driven Year 13 student at Wellington School.

Human Relief Foundation has been providing crucial support to communities in need for over 30 years, focusing on regions such as the Middle East, South East Asia, and Africa. One of their core missions is to ensure access to clean water, which significantly reduces water-borne illnesses and improves the quality of life for countless individuals.

The new wells in Bangladesh and Sri Lanka will provide clean water for drinking, cooking, and hygiene, freeing up hours previously spent fetching water. This means community members can now focus on education, work, and other essential activities that contribute to their well-being.

Mohammed Talhah, HRF’s North region fundraising coordinator, expressed his gratitude:

“From all of us at HRF and on behalf of the communities now benefiting from clean water, we are deeply thankful for the incredible efforts of Zainab, the students, and staff of Wellington School. Seeing young people show such compassion and empathy for those in need is truly inspiring.

We are excited to continue collaborating with the school’s Islamic Society to bring hope and sustainable solutions to communities around the world.”

This fantastic achievement is a testament to the power of teamwork and the generosity of young people in making a global impact.
